[She tosses one of the pieces at his head, lightly.]

Ack! You got me.

[And he falls backwards, ling still for a moment because he feels like being an overly dramatic dork.

It only lasts a few seconds before he pops back up and flicks the piece back at her.]

And now we're even.

[dialo]

[It whacks her horn, which she doesn't really feel, but she plays along... in her usual deadpan voice.] Oh no, I am bested. Whatever shall I do.

[keybearer]

Hmm... I'm feeling generous today, so I'll let you off the hook for now.

[He says, when he was the one who teased her in the first place. And that's another piece sliding into place.]

Mercy.

[She fiddles with another few pieces before speaking up again.] How have you been?

[keybearer]

Honestly? I'm just going through the motions.

[Sighing, he squints and tries to find another spot for the next puzzle piece.]

It's been almost a year since I got here, and I feel like I should've accomplished more by now.

[dialo]

It does get repetitive. I'm not sure how much there is to accomplish in the first place, here. Other than perhaps convince the Witch to raise wages.

[Or try and make the island less dangerous... But that's an unpleasant thought.]

[keybearer]

Heh. Think we could pull that off?

[That grin of his suggests he's seriously considering it, or at least pretending that's the case. What a dweeb.]

Someone might be able to. I'm not sure how I'd contribute, but I'd help if there was anything for me to do.

[She's considering it as well, but 'bribing her with pies' doesn't seem like it would work.]

Hmm... Well, I guess there's bribery, but that might be too easy.

[So, what to do... He fiddles with a puzzle piece while he mulls this over.]

Got any secret talents you haven't told me about yet?

Besides baking and glowing eyes, I can fly better than most of the debtors. Particularly the ones that don't have wings.

[So no, not really.]

Hmm... Could always use the glowing eyes for the intimidation factor.

[Cue a cheeky grin. He's joking, really! It's just in his nature to tease.]

[She knows he's joking around, and it's almost making her smile.]

You think so? In that case I don't mind coming along.

[keybearer]

Good! I'd bring Flare along for the ride, but I get the feeling he'd ruin the intimidation factor by rolling around on the floor.

[His dragon's a weirdo. He's also way too cute to scare anybody.]

You might need to invest in a scarier pet. Maybe a goldfish.

[keybearer]

[He squints, then stares, one eyebrow raised.]

Since when are goldfish scary?

[dialo]

It was a joke. [She sighs - obviously that was unclear.]

The delivery needs work?

[keybearer]

Maybe a little.

[Heh. Well, there's another piece falling into place.]

If you want an added punch, you could even go for something like a kitten or a rabbit.

Don't you think a rabbit would be overdoing it? We just want to scare her a little.

Hmm, I think you're right. Those twitchy noses and fluffy tails... They're signs of pure evil.

[He assumes she's joking, of course, and even fakes an evil laugh for good measure.]

[She is! The fact that there are actually scary rabbits in her canon is a fact unknown to her.]

Exactly. Do you think you could even control a rabbit?

[keybearer]

Hey, all we'd need is a carrot on a string.

[Never mind that carrots are actually bad for rabbits and that the orange part can kill them.]

[Those are things Teufel knows, actually, and she drops back into serious mode.]

Don't really feed carrots to rabbits, you must hurt them. They're much more suited for leafy vegetables.

Wait, really?

[His eyes fly wide open, and he blinks a few times.]

Huh. Then I wonder where the whole rabbit and carrots thing even came from.

I don't know. I think that stereotype is older than me, and it's not really something I've looked into.

[Though, now that she's thinking about it...]

Why is it that even different worlds think rabbits enjoy carrots when they don't? You'd think some of us would get the right idea.
